The Wool Street Publishing Self-Publishing Package includes the following coordination services:
We'll help you establish your own publishing company for the purposes of publishing, marketing, and distributing your book. You'll retain all rights to your book. State and local fees and other out-of-pocket expenses incurred in connection with the organization of your publishing company, which are usually modest, will be your responsibility. Or, if you prefer, we can publish your book through our company, Wool Street Publishing.
We will arrange for the design of your book's cover, with your input and approval. The designer will invoice you directly, without any markup for our services. Custom cover designs typically cost between $1,000 and $2,500.
We will secure quotes from reliable book designers and coordinate the interior layout of your book, with your input and approval. The designer will invoice you directly, without any markup for our services. The cost of interior layout generally ranges between $1,000 to $3,000.
If desired, we will secure quotes from reliable book indexers and coordinate the indexing of your book with your input and approval. The indexer will invoice you directly, without any markup for our services. The cost of indexing generally ranges from $500 to $1,500.
We will secure quotes from professional printers and help you chose the most suitable supplier for your project. The printer will invoice you directly, without any markup added for our coordination services. Because you will have a direct relationship with the printer, you will be able to order additional copies of your book at any time at the printer's price. Per-copy prices decrease as print quantities increase. Printing 300 copies of a soft-cover book of 150 pages typically costs approximately $900 ($3.00 per book); printing of 500 copies costs about $1,200 ($2.40 per book); and printing 5,000 copies costs about $7,500 ($1.50 per book). Very small quantities can be printed rather economically using print-on-demand (POD) services. Naturally, hardcover books cost more.
An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is required for each edition of your book (i.e., hardcover, soft cover, e-book, audio book, and subsequent new editions). We will obtain ISBNs for your book and invoice you for the cost (approximately $275 for a block of 10).
Your book is automatically copyrighted as soon as it is written, but registering it with the U.S. Copyright Office provides an additional level of protection. We will handle this and invoice you for the fee (approximately $35 for an electronic submission).
We will list your book with Bowker's Books in Print, which is a key reference for bookstore buyers and other members of the publishing community.
If your book will be sold to libraries, we will obtain a Pre-assigned Control Number (PCN) from the Library of Congress.
If desired, we will help connect you with a distributor to handle order fulfillment and distribution of your book to Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, retail book stores, and other appropriate outlets. You will pay fees directly to the distributor, without any markup from us. Most distributors charge a one-time setup fee of approximately $200, plus modest monthly warehousing and fulfillment fees.
We will help you arrange for electronic publication of your book, if desired. The cost is usually about $500, which you will pay directly to the vendor without any markup from us.
We will create the copy for the front and back covers of your book for your approval.
We will create promotional copy for your listing on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and other online bookstores.
If desired, we will create bookmark copy and arrange for the printing of the bookmarks. You will pay only for the layout and printing costs, without any markup for our services.
To help ensure that your book is free from grammatical errors, we will arrange for a professional editor to proofread the manuscript before it goes to press. You will be billed for this service without any markup from us (the cost generally ranges between $300 and $600).
If desired, we will introduce you to professionals who can assist with marketing strategy, book promotion, website development, and other aspects of marketing. These service providers will invoice you directly. For 20% additional, we will help coordinate their activities.
